The Buffalo Fire Department has released the name of the firefighter who lost his life in a tragic accident while responding to a fire call. Jason Arno, 54, was a 21-year veteran of the department and a member of Engine 34. He was responding to a call on February 24, 2023, when he was struck by a vehicle and later passed away due to his injuries.

The incident happened near the intersection of South Park Avenue and Louisiana Street, and Arno was part of a team responding to a report of smoke in a building on that block. As he was getting off the truck, a vehicle struck him and pinned him against the truck. Arno was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Buffalo Fire Department expressed its condolences to Arno's family and colleagues, and flags at all fire stations in the city were lowered to half-mast in honor of his memory. Arno is survived by his wife, three children, and two grandchildren.

The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Buffalo Police Department. The department is also offering counseling services to members of the department who may be impacted by the tragic loss.
